THE SCIENCE

Nutrition, quietly explained.

A friendly guide to what your body actually needs — and how seeds can help you get there. No jargon, no miracle claims — just honest food science.

What is nutrition, really?

Nutrition is the daily conversation between what you eat and how your body works. Every cell you have — from the ones that carry oxygen in your blood to the ones that build muscle when you climb stairs — is either built or repaired from the food you put on your plate. That's it. No magic, just chemistry on a plate.

Why does it matter, especially now?

Modern diets skew heavy on carbohydrates and salt, and light on the small, dense foods that used to round out an Indian thali — seeds, nuts, legumes, whole grains. A small daily habit of adding these back is one of the highest-leverage things you can do for long-term everyday nutrition and variety.

Where do seeds fit in?

Seeds are nutritionally the densest thing in the plant world. A plant packs everything a new seedling needs — protein for building, fats for energy, minerals for structure — into one tiny package. Eating them means borrowing that concentrated goodness for yourself.

  • Protein

Every muscle, every enzyme, every cell wall — protein is the building block. Adults need roughly 0.8–1 g per kilogram of body weight each day. Most vegetarian diets in India fall short.

Best sources: Quinoa · Pumpkin · Chia · Watermelon
  • Fibre

The part of plants your body doesn't digest — but your gut bacteria love. Fibre feeds them, keeps digestion smooth, and slows sugar absorption. Aim for 25–30 g a day; most Indians get half that.

Best sources: Chia · Quinoa · Sesame · Sunflower
  • Omega-3

A fat your body cannot make on its own — the same "brain and heart" fat celebrated in oily fish. Chia seeds are one of the few plant-based sources dense enough to make a real difference.

    Best sources: Chia · Pumpkin
  • Calcium

Bones, teeth, nerve signals, muscle contractions — calcium is quietly essential. If dairy isn't a big part of your day, sesame and poppy seeds are two of the strongest plant sources you can add.

Best sources: Sesame · Poppy · Chia
  • Iron

Iron carries oxygen through your blood. Deficiency is one of the most common nutritional gaps in India, especially among women. Pair iron-rich seeds with vitamin C (lemon, tomato) for best absorption.

Best sources: Sesame · Pumpkin · Quinoa
  • Zinc & Magnesium

Zinc runs your immune system; magnesium runs over 300 chemical reactions including sleep, muscle recovery and mood regulation. A small daily handful of pumpkin seeds moves the needle noticeably.

Best sources: Pumpkin · Sunflower · Watermelon
